BLEND USED: Bored-O Blanc California Grape Nectar

Tasting Attributes: The sauvignon blanc blend of grape nectar eases the tang of the smoothie without overpowering the flavors

Our latest smoothie recipe is full of nutritious seasonal ingredients, easy to make, and tastes absolutely incredible! This smoothie consists of all vegan elements including coconut milk, banana, kiwi, and your choice of citrus, which gives a tropical and bright flavor. To balance out the tang of the kiwi and citrus, we have decided to use our Bored-O Blanc blend of sweetener, which is made from sauvignon blanc California grapes.

As always, we seek to use the highest quality ingredients that we can find. For this reason, we made sure to select fruits that are in season during the winter. Seasonal fruits are more tasty, fresh, and higher in nutrients than fruits that are out of season. We recommend your local farmers market for the fruit needed in this smoothie as you are assured the freshest of fruit and supporting local business, win-win! Local to the San Diego area? Stop by the Little Italy Mercato on Saturdays between 8a-2p to get both your fruits and our grape nectar sugar alternatives.

So why did we choose to use our original blend of natural sweeteners? The Bored-O Blanc grape sugar adds the perfect amount of sweetness to this smoothie without overpowering the tropical, fruity notes. The natural sweetener is included mainly to balance out the tartness that comes from the kiwi and citrus in this drink with its rich fig and apple notes. We found that adding just two tablespoon of our Bored-O Blanc sugar substitutes was the key to enhancing the overall taste without an overpowering sweet flavor.

We used coconut milk in this smoothie to help make it rich and creamy and keep it plant based. It can easily be swapped for any milk you prefer to use. The citrus of the grapefruit, or blood orange, provides an array of health benefits. Citrus fruits are full of vitamins, especially vitamin C, and are high in fiber and support a healthy immune system in the cold months. Want to go one step further with this healthy smoothie? Throw in a handful of spinach for extra antioxidants or chia seeds for additional fiber.

We would bet on it that this will be your new go-to breakfast smoothie or midday snack. As long as you have some grape nectar on hand, your smoothie game will be strong in the new decade. We’re making it easy to #WakeUp on the healthy side in 2020!
